Our program is innovatively designed with a person-centered approach to support residents to be engaged and active with activities of their choice and preference. Programs include social activities, light fitness, creative workshops, guest speakers, live musical entertainment, outings, and virtual screen time for those who have loved ones away. Examples of activities include: Morning coffee or tea during current events conversation followed by seated chair exercises. Afternoon ‘walk with me’ outside on beautiful days and inside when the weather in Maine isn’t outside walking weather. How about gardening in one of our many raised beds? And what would a week be without bingo? For animal lovers, how about pet therapy? Weekly ice cream socials are always a community favorite. Our monthly themed celebrations include all major holidays and events with cultural twists from around the world. Watch any good movies lately? Well, we’re showing tastefully selected movies each week. Our outings include trips to the movie theater with comfortable reclining seats, local museums, shopping, and community events. Do you love to swim or enjoy water exercise? We make weekly trips to the local YMCA. How about a drive to see antique automobiles, go for an ice cream, or maybe get your line wet when we go fishing. Living in Maine there’s always an opportunity for a quiet beautiful scenic drive too. No one in the family will want to miss our Holiday Spectacular when Santa and Mrs. Claus visit the facility during our Christmas Social. With 34 beds at our facility, we’re able to offer BIG events with a small personal feel.

What makes KALR different from other area assisted living facilities:
We truly believe it’s not about the building, but more importantly, about the people inside the building…The people being cared for and the people caring. Our individualized holistic approach to your loved one's physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being is what sets us apart from the rest. Our continuum of care allows your loved one to be with us for a temporary short-term stay or a long-term stay. Your initial stay with us may be during a respite short stay. This gives you the opportunity to become familiar with our people and our program. Your initial stay may be a short-term stay while you continue to regain your strength following rehabilitation services. Routine admissions are those for individuals who have come to a point in life when they now need a bit of help to get through their typical activities of daily living, such as managing medications and treatments, preparing nutritious tasty meals, and getting some help with putting your socks and shoes on. We’re here for you.
HOSPICE End-of-Life Journey
In partnership with Maine’s premier hospice agencies, we offer respite for caregivers and bereavement support for families after your loved one’s passing. Our Comfort Care Suite provides two rooms: one for you and one for your loved one. Your loved one’s room is a spacious space with lovely natural daylight and a view of the flowing Kennebec River from your loved one’s provided adjustable bed. Family and close friends are welcome to gather in the room to surround the patient during their journey. Because we understand the journey is yours too, we also provide you with a separate room close by, so that you can rest in a comfortable bed, freshen up with a shower, or sit and chat with close friends and family in a private sitting area with refreshments provided at your fingertips. When you want to be near, you never have to be far with us at Kennebec Assisted Living & Respite.
